Planning the ultimate beach getaway for some much needed luxury relaxation with a side of adventure can sometimes feel overwhelming. It’s rare when I go places that I would only pack for peaceful days by the pool, and an oceanside dinner at night. That vacation would last me about 3 days before I would be bored out of my mind. I like to keep my options open for any opportunity for fun and adventure, like exploring the land and experiencing the culture of a new location or snorkeling around a tiny island and having a romantic beach picnic after. So, whether you're paddleboarding in crystal-clear waters, hiking along coastal cliffs, or lounging at a five-star resort, your packing list needs to be as versatile as you are. Here’s a guide to help you pack smart, so you can focus on making the most of your vacation.

  1. Stylish & Functional Swimwear

Let’s start with the essentials—your swimwear. When I’m on vacation, I’m ALWAYS in a swimsuit. I wear it to breakfast under my coverup, during the day to visit the nearest village under my shorts and tank top or just walking around the resort, and then sometimes even to dinner under a beautiful beach dress.

  • The Todos One Piece: Whether I’m snorkeling, catching some waves, or reading a book in a beachside cabana, this is my go-to for everything! With its light compression fabric and high thigh cut design, it’s sexy while keeping everything secure. Plus, the peekaboo cutouts add a touch of sophistication and style without sacrificing coverage.
  • The Hermosa Tie Bikini Top & Bottom: This set is my other beach go-to. Some days on vacation I literally live in a tie top and tie bottom, from dawn till dusk. I love it because of its versatility and style. You can dress it up or down and this suit is ready for whatever you have planned. The adjustable tie-top offers a custom fit that’s perfect for tropical adventures, while the tie-bottom provides moderate coverage, keeping me comfortable whether I’m snorkeling, sunbathing, or enjoying cocktails by the pool. The classic minimalistic design is elegant without sacrificing functionality, making it perfect for both adventure and relaxation.
  1. Lightweight Cover-Ups for Day to Night

Another essential is a coverup. Cover-ups are great to throw on over your swimsuit for those quick trips to grab breakfast or lunch or a stroll through the resort, and a good cover-up will also keep you cool while protecting you from the sun.

  • The Hermosa Mesh Cover-Up: This cover-up is seriously dreamy. The soft, breathable mesh feels amazing against your skin, even after a little too much sun, and it’s lightweight enough to keep you cool while still offering sun protection. Whether you’re heading for a stroll on the beach or to the poolside cocktail bar, this is the piece that pulls your look together.
  1. Sun Protection is Key

You’re going to be spending a lot of time outdoors, so make sure you pack the right sun protection. It doesn’t hurt that you can look amazing while staying safe from those UV rays!

  • UPF Clothing: All of our swimsuits come with UPF 50+ protection, so you can spend more time in the sun without worrying about sunburn. Pair it with the Hermosa  cover-up, and you’re good to go!
  • Sunscreen: I know at this point you probably have your favorite sunscreens, but you can’t talk sun protection without talking sunscreen. On vacation, most days I use a mineral sunscreen for my skin. Mineral sunscreens protect your skin without the harsh chemicals found in many traditional sunscreens. Plus, they’re reef-safe, so you’re protecting both your skin and the environment. On days I’m going to spend more time in the sun or water, I go the extra mile and use a zinc oxide-based sunscreen. Zinc oxide provides superior water resistance and extended protection against harmful UV rays, making it ideal for active beach days or extended outdoor adventures. Its ability to physically block rays lasts longer without degrading, so it’s perfect for all-day wear in and out of the water. I’ve used zinc while surfing in Fiji, where the sun was the hottest I’ve ever felt, and it kept me from getting burned.
  1. Versatile Footwear

You’ll want options when it comes to shoes—one pair for adventure and one for when you’re ready to dial up the luxury.

  • Comfortable Sandals: Think chic and practical! I always pack 2 pairs of sandals, one pair I don’t care if they get ruined, and another pair I do care if they get ruined. One pair is used for beach walks or if it rains and gets muddy, I don’t mind if I have to puddle hop back to my room. The other pair are for romantic nights out with my husband, or if I want to feel a little more elegant at the pool. Lastly, if I have room in my suitcase, I also love a good pair of wedges. They can go from day to night easily and I always love a little extra height!
  • Adventure Shoes: If you’re planning on hiking or exploring rugged terrain, pack something sturdy. Think waterproof sandals or a pair of sneakers that’ll keep your feet comfy. I tend to wear my workout sneakers on the plane so that they don’t take up extra room in my suitcase. This way if I want to workout I have my shoes, but I also have shoes for something more adventurous like a hike.
  1. Accessories That Pull Your Look Together

Keep your accessories simple but stylish. The right extras can elevate any beach look.

  • Sunglasses: I always bring two pairs of sunglasses as well. I bring one, again, that I don’t care if they get ruined. They are a pair that I would wear for a sunset cruise, boat trips to check surf, or anything where they could possibly fly into the water or get damaged. The other pair I bring are very stylish and are for pool days, lounging, sunset beach cocktails, or doing anything where I want to look good and stylish.
  1. The Perfect Beach Bag

You’re going to need a bag that can handle all your beach essentials while looking fabulous.

  • Water-Resistant Tote: A water-resistant tote or a crossbody is essential for carrying everything you need whether it’s sunscreen, a good book, or your beach essentials. A lot of times resorts have their own beach bags in the room for you to use so you don’t have to pack your own. It’s always good to check with the hotel first to see if they do. If they don’t, you can always use your beach bag as your “purse” when you fly, and then use it as your beach bag when you arrive. My favorite beach bag is a Mexican upcycle woven bag. It uses recycled plastic as the material, but is also very stylish and durable!
